Akademikernes A-kasse (The Unemployment Insurance Fund for Academics) has always focused on digital development and the use of the latest technology to support daily operations and serve its members. As Microsoft decided not to further develop the Navision (Dynamics NAV) platform, AKA chose to replace their old Navision system with Dynamics 365 Business Central about a year ago—mainly to stay current.

It is part of our strategy to be a sort of digital frontrunner and have the newest and best technology available. We invest heavily in development and IT. So, it was a strategic decision to switch to BC. We could have waited a year, five years, possibly even ten. Navision could still have met our needs,” says AKA’s Chief Financial Officer, Eva Elsborg.

Nevertheless, AKA decided to stay ahead of the curve and future-proof their financial system now. After a tender process with three suppliers, AKA chose to partner with Fellowmind as their provider.

It was partly the price, but it was especially the walkthrough of the platform and the impression we got of the people who would work on the project—they seemed very competent and trustworthy,” says Eva Elsborg, explaining the choice of supplier.

AKA makes the leap to Business Central

Recently, AKA went live with the new standard Business Central solution—an upgraded and future-proofed version of their previous Navision financial management system.

In general, the main goal was to fit AKA into Business Central, not to fit Business Central into AKA; we didn’t want to turn BC into something unrecognizable with 117,000 modifications. So, we’ve kept things as standard as possible,” says Eva Elsborg and continues:

We didn’t make this switch to optimize or save time. We made the switch to have a system that was up-to-date instead of the old one we were using.”

In the longer term, AKA aims to take advantage of the many benefits of having the latest technology available, but for now, the BC system is only required to meet the most basic needs in accounting.
